Corrections, contact and reader accounts

The corrections desk and the reader contact address

The page is where readers email corrections, defects and notes about the editorial coverage. The desk replies during business hours. The desk does not run user accounts.

Three reasons readers write to us

Reason 01

Correction

A claim on the desk is wrong, dated, or labelled at the wrong tier. The desk issues a correction with the original wording visible.

Reason 02

Defect note

A page does not render correctly on your device. The desk reproduces, files a defect and notes the device class.

Reason 03

Reader letter

You have a question that did not make it into the question queue. The desk reads reader letters weekly.

What the desk does with each letter

Correction
Reproduce the claim against the source ladder. Issue a correction if the reader is right. Annotate the page within 48 hours.
Defect
Test on the device class the reader named. File a defect on the issue tracker. Reply with the fix timeline if one is on the schedule.
Letter
Read weekly. Where the letter raises a question that fits an FAQ, the desk republishes the answer on the appropriate route.

Reader account access

The desk does not run a reader account. The desk does not store email. The desk's email correspondence comes through the corrections address and is kept only long enough to issue a correction or a reply, then filed.

Reader questions · customer care

How quickly does the desk respond?

Correction replies within 48 hours during business hours. Defect replies after reproduction. Letters are read weekly.

What if my letter is sensitive?

State "sensitive" in the subject. The desk reads sensitive letters separately and routes them straight to the editor.

Where is the email address?

The corrections address is published on the home page footer and on the coverage. The desk does not display the address as a mailto link to avoid scraping.
